1. General questions
What is biochar?
Biochar is created through the pyrolytic carbonisation of woody biomass in the absence of oxygen. It is rich in carbon, porous and has a large surface area – ideal properties for binding nutrients, water and pollutants.
What is the difference between feed charcoal and soil charcoal?
Feed charcoal is specially tailored for use with animals: more finely ground and particularly pure. Soil charcoal mainly serves soil improvement and humus formation – e.g. in Terra Preta.
Is biochar the same as charcoal?
No. Biochar is produced specifically for agricultural and ecological purposes. Barbecue charcoal is not suitable – it sometimes contains residues and additives and does not have the same structure.
2. Use with animals (feed charcoal)
How does feed charcoal work in the animal?
It binds toxins in the gastrointestinal tract, stabilises digestion, improves the immune system and can help with diarrhoea, faecal water or bloating.
Which animals is your feed charcoal suitable for?
Our feed charcoal can be used for:
- Horses
- Cattle & calves
- Pigs
- Poultry
- Sheep & lambs
- Small animals (e.g. dogs, cats, rodents, birds)
How is the feed charcoal administered?
Usually mixed with the feed or moistened with a little water. The exact dosage depends on the animal and purpose – you can find information on our feed charcoal page:
3. Use in the garden & in agriculture (soil charcoal)
How does biochar work in the soil?
It stores water and nutrients, improves the soil structure, promotes soil life and ensures permanent humus formation.
What is Terra Preta?
Terra Preta (“black earth”) is a permanently fertile soil that contains, among other things, biochar, compost and microorganisms. You can also make it yourself with our composting aid.
Can I also use biochar in my own garden?
Yes, ideal for vegetable beds, potted plants, raised beds and composting. The biochar should be activated before it goes into the soil – e.g. with compost, slurry or EM.

4. Ordering & delivery
How can I order?
Via our digital order form. Simply select the desired products and send – we will prepare a non-binding offer for you.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No, individual sacks can also be ordered.
How long does delivery take?
The delivery time depends on the respective product and its availability:
- We ship stocked goods within a few working days by DHL parcel or freight forwarder.
- Alternatively, self-collection is also possible – observing our loading and unloading times (please register in advance).
- Products not in stock currently have a lead time of approx. 4 weeks due to production planning.
After receiving your order, we will inform you whether the desired product is available or when the next possible delivery date is.
5. Quality & safety
Is your biochar certified?
Yes, our products are subject to continuous quality assurance and meet the requirements of the German Fertiliser Ordinance (DüMV). Production is based on regional FSC/PEFC-certified raw materials.
Is feed charcoal safe for animals?
Our feed charcoals are specially developed for use in animal husbandry, tested and purely plant-based. They contain no additives or impurities.
6. Other
Can I also use your biochar on an organic farm?
Yes, all of our products are also suitable for organic farming. Please ask us for individual confirmation.
Where is your biochar produced?
Our production takes place in Rieden (Germany) – with a plant from CTS Schuster and in compliance with high environmental standards.
